A personal website by Silvia Caso, London-based art professional.
I have been working in the contemporary art field for ten years covering different roles, most of which have included helping artists set up their show or assisting them in a way by which I de factoperformed the role of a curator/curatorial assistant.
However, in the last few years, I have been critically re-evaluating the term ‘curator’; therefore, the ‘curated’ in this blog’s title is not inspired by any self-conferred label, but instead, it is intended in its etymological meaning from the Latin curare, ‘to care for’.
On account of the above, this website presents a selection of contemporary art-related topics connected to my professional and academic path, all things I care for.
Both in my past job roles and currently, as an independent art project organiser, I have been regularly asked by artists to provide feedback on their projects and their potential developments.
Drawing from a wealth of available information (books, articles and videos), and from a personal passion for project management and arts marketing, the section Investigated aims to open up a meaningful exchange on the practical ways art projects can be constructed, managed and promoted.
The objective is to offer prompts and ideas to artists on how to maximise their entrepreneurial spirit and carve a space for themselves in a highly competitive and often poorly paid sector.
The page Organised lists my past and current projects.
Most recently, I have been focusing on developing artistic projects that promote strong community engagement and have a social impact.
Lastly, under the tab Scribbled I have gathered texts and reviews I have written about exhibitions and artworks that have moved/inspired/questioned/provoked me.
This section also includes excerpts from my research, which focuses on disputed territories and their imaginaries, particularly in relation to East Asia. This topic is enmeshed with investigations on territorial sovereignty, on colonialism and nationalism, and on the relation between artistic practices and the site they inhabit (both physically and figuratively).
Welcome to this little corner of the internet, where I hope to encourage conversations on all the above and much more.
